I have heard that there is at least one company that makes a .22 conversino for the 1911 style pistols. I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with this and what your opinion is.

Also, what company(ies) make these and do they fit all 1911 style pistols or just the Colts?

There are only two conversion kits that I know of: The Colt ACE kit, now out of production and quite expensive ($250+; I paid $275 for one in fine mechanical condition but almost no blue left.)

Another conversion kit was introduced this year by Jonathan Arthur Ciener, Inc. 8700 Commerce St., Cape Canaveral, FL 32920 (407) 868 2200 fax, 2201. $179 + $5 shipping, 90 to 120 days delivery. Spare mags $35.

Either of these kits will fit any 1911A1-style .45. My ACE kit hangs up on the ejector and firing pin stop of my Colt 9mm Commander. The slide will mount on a Commander frame, but you'll be left with a quarter-inch gap between the frame and slide in front of the trigger guard. This shouldn't hurt, but a full-length recoil spring guide ought to insure the spring won't hang up in the open space.

There used to be someone around here who was very knowledgable about the Colt ACEs, and Russ from NM has one of the Ciener kits and says he's happy with it.
