XIII. Safety and Security

A. Safety

3. Armed and Groggy

by a rec.guns reader

I recall waking up one morning pondering this dream I had. I dreamt that I woken up in my room alarmed and heard a noise ten feet from the bed. I quickly grabbed my Taurus PT-92 off the night stand, chambered a round, bought the weapon to bear and then stopped to identify the intruder. I groggily discerned that the intruder was scratching itself with its hind leg, causing his license to jingle against his collar.

Then I dreamt that I dropped the magazine, ejected the round and went back to other dreams.

Looking around the room the next morning, what should I see but my unloaded Taurus and my demented English Springer Spaniel.

What would have happened if I hadn't trained to never shoot what I can't see/identify?

What would have happened if an actual intruder had happened by after I unloaded the gun? (No. The dog wouldn't have protected me.)

Thank you NRA. Thank you NRA. Thank you NRA.

P.S. Groggy? I was so groggy that if I saw myself in the mirror I wouldn't have known weather to scream or comb the top.
